COACH GREG
Why me? Because I’ve been in your shoes.
During my first few years of undergrad, when I started seeing my student loans racking up, it wasn’t the growing number that scared me — it was my complete ignorance of finance. How was interest calculated? What did forbearance mean? And perhaps most frighteningly, how the h*ck was I going to pay all of this money back. Once I realized that my conservatory education was not going to aid me in answering these questions, I turned to other resources — books, seminars, and individual’s who could lead me in the right direction. But none of these resources really addressed the financial specifics of artists, like budgeting on a volatile income stream or navigating the gig economy. After extrapolating and experimenting, I found ways to make my money work better.
With a little bit of knowledge finance was no longer scary. In fact, within two years, I hadn’t simply learned about my student loans — I completely eliminated them. By the time I finished my bachelor’s, I was debt free, funding a retirement account, and growing my net worth through a combination of savvy investment decisions.
